Konnie Huq Wears Her Blue Peter Badge For 50th Anniversary

It's nearly time for Blue Peter to celebrate it's anniversary. Next month it will be 50 years old, yes it started way back in 1958.

Konnie Huq was with Blue Peter for 10 of those years and has been reflecting on her time on the program. She told Weekend magazine:

"The most memorable moment - and there were many - has to be returning to the Bangladeshi village in which many of my family had lived. I met members of my extended family and I remember thinking, 'If my parents hadn't come over to Britain, I'd be living in the village now.' It was bizarre, but extremely moving to film there."

Konnie went on to say, "I often say I feel 22 not 33 because those ten years of my life have been consumed with Blue Peter. The team became like my family and it was hard to say goodbye."

Today is the end of an era. Konnie Huq will bow out of Blue Peter this afternoon, the final show for her being at 5 pm on BBC1.

So what will Konnie be doing after her reign at Blue Peter? Konnie said:

"I think put my feet up. I've lined up lots of corporate work because suddenly I can do those - our schedules are so manic on Blue Peter that I couldn't do much, so now I've done the hard slog. It's random things.

One thing is I'm going to this resort in the Canary Islands and being paid loads of money to just to large it up in this resort - it's weird, the corporate world and what you get."

I'm sure we all wish her every success for the future.

Konnie Huq Says Sorry About Socks!

Konnie Huq was made to apologise again by the BBC. This time for the Blue Peter naming of the cat fiasco.

Yes the name for the cat had been rigged, so the phone call voting was really a waste of time for viewers.

Konnie was with Zoe Salmon to make the apology. After explaining what had happened Zoe said, "That was wrong so today we'd like to say sorry."

And Konnie continued with, "Yes we would, and what better way to say sorry than with this cute thing," and she held up Socks, the wrongly named cat.

And that was that!

Konnie Huq And That Blue Peter Phone-In Deception

The BBC has been fined £50,000 for running which was in effect a fake phone-in competition.

Callers rang a Blue Peter competition line but, because of technical problems, a young girl from the studio was used as the prize winner.

When caught out Konnie Huq and the other Blue Peter presenters did an on air apology - which you can see in the video below. This did not, however, satisfy Ofcom who said there were 'serious breaches in the broadcasting code' which amounted to 'deception'.

Konnie Huq was not involved with the fiddle personally but merely took part in the apology broadcast. It was a member of the production team who asked a girl visiting the studio to pose as the winner.

Konnie Huq Leaving Blue Peter

The Daily Mirror has reported that Konnie Huq is to quit Blue Peter after a decade. Is this the reason as to why she created a new image, showing lots of flesh, at the Spiderman 3 Premier?

Her agent Jonathan Shalit said: "Konnie loves Blue Peter but she is 31 now and has decided the time is right to progress into an adult career. Blue Peter are aware that she will not be renewing her contract when it runs out in February."
